We wake up early, but we could not dare to go downstairs before him because he loves to torture us before we open the presents.

He sits at the bottom of the stairs telling us how many presents there are and how big they are just so we would want to go downstairs more. While we wait on the stairs, my dad takes pictures of us, at our most beautiful so early in the morning, just to stall and annoy us more before we go open presents with the rest of the family.

The tradition of torturing us before coming downstairs is something that was started by my dad. Christmas, along with other holidays, is a tradition in my family that we always seem to keep true year after year. My dad is usually the one who keeps his family traditions alive with our family because he loves each holiday and the traditions his family has had for years.

Although every Christmas morning is a hassle to deal with the annoyance of my father and the traditions he loves, I come to expect it and would be sad if these traditions were to someday disappear.

I have spent all nineteen years of my life having Christmas at home with my family and my father refuses to change our tradition of going somewhere else on Christmas. But, there have been times when my either one of my parents consider, if only for a millisecond, to spend Christmas morning somewhere else.

Even though there are traditions that seem ridiculous to me they are what make any family, including my own, a family. From how we celebrate holidays to even where we sit at the kitchen table, my family has traditions that we follow and enjoy because it is tradition and never changes.

Family traditions are a way that my family sticks together. My family has kept many traditions over the years and each year, many of my family members look forward to it because that is the true essence of our family. Each tradition may be crazy and have no logic behind them, but the traditions are what make my family unique and different from other families.
